Dirty Bottoms

Many a safety conscious Baptist has never washed the bottoms of their feet while standing in the shower. It just isn’t prudent to do so. That tub floor can be tricky when perched on a single limb.

What if I knew a secret that would allow you to both avoid broken bones and have clean feet? Would you be interested?

If you fix your eye on the spot where two lines of grout between the tiles cross and hold that stare, you can stand on one foot while washing the other. A visual or tactile point of reference it the key to staying on balance.

There are many similar moments in life when maintaining contact with a defined point of reference is the safe way to stay clean. Less subtly, the holy scriptures are an exceptional resource for anyone who desires to live a life of godly orientation.

Wow ... I guess I just didn't see it. It's so simple, but profound: Wash Under Our Feet. Good hygiene tip!

All kidding aside, it is a very insightful and helpful analogy. Like focusing on the crossing of the grout lines, God's word is a contact point & key to balancing life. As I finished reading this, it seemed so obvious. But as I've seen even recently, the thief seems to constantly be at work to alter my habits in this area, to my great harm and suffering.

The result of the word’s work in (or absence from) my daily life is most pointed during the most difficult times. My soul needs washing, both from battle wounds and from the grime I accumulate just by living in this fallen world. Knowing how hard the struggle can be, I try to avoid needlessly suffering or causing suffering in my relationships. The word helps me in both areas: getting clean and protecting from harm. Regularly keeping in the word is so basic, practical and essential for me, but tragically, all too often and all too easily ignored by me.

I thank God that He's so good and wise. He knows I’m weak. In His grace, He sends many helpful reminders. Thanks for being one of those.
